Derived from the fruit of the serenoa repens plant, saw palmetto is a mix of fatty acids, and in this respect does contain a caloric value. Not much is known about the individual active compounds in saw palmetto, but we do know that within the liposterolic fraction of the fruit is where saw palmetto’s health boosting benefits are to be sourced, such as:
- Lowering the risk of benign prostatic hyperplasia, hair loss, and lower urinary tract infections in men, by preventing testosterone being converted to DHT
- Treating cold symptoms; coughs, mucus, sore throat, headaches, migraines
- Boosting libido
- Influencing hair regrowth
- Supporting the thyroid gland for a healthy metabolism
. For benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): 160 mg twice daily or 320 mg once daily.
. For the treatment of bald spots: 200 mg twice daily combined with beta-sitosterol 50 mg twice daily.
